Militants attack Police naka in high
security Sonwar in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, June 5: Close on the heels
of killing three Police personnel in two broad daylight attacks in Srinagar,
followed by killing 3 BSF men and 2 Police officials in Anantnag on Saturday,
militants knocked at the high security zone of Sonwar in the summer capital
late on Sunday night but failed to cause any harm.
Official sources said that the
militants escaped after attacking the Police and authorities sounded an alert
in entire Srinagar city, asking Police to monitor movement of the vehicular
traffic particularly the motorcycle.
SP City (East) Faisal Qayoom Sheikh
told STATE TIMES that two suspected militants on a motorcycle appeared close to
a naka outside Ram Munshi Bagh at 10.45 p.m. They fired on the Police party.
However the Police retaliated and forced the militants to flee. Thereupon the
motorcycle borne militants escaped on the two-wheeler.
The spot of shootout is located in a
high security zone, close to the residences of Chief Justice, sitting and
former Chief Minister, senior ministers and senior legislators and the
fortified private residences of a host of Ministers and senior officials.
Studios and other establishments of Radio Kashmir, Doordarshan Kendra besides
Tourist Reception Centre are at a stone's throw from Ram Munshi Bagh Police
Station.
