SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Three militants, believed to be Pakistani cadres of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba are believed dead even as two soldiers have sustained injuries and one militant is still holed up in the overnight gunbattle at Karmhora village, in Zachaldara area of Handwara in North Kashmir.
Official sources confirmed death of three militants but said that their bodies were yet to be recovered from the site of the gunbattle. They said that one militant were still believed to be holed up and the search operation was underway.
DIG North Kashmir Gareeb Das told STATE TIMES that according to the tip off last evening, two groups of two each militants were present in Kramhore when Army, Special Operations Group of Handwara District Police and CRPF launched the operation.
DIG said that two militants died in the beginning of the operation on Saturday evening while as third died in exchange of fire with the forces on Sunday morning. He said that the fourth militant was believed to be holed up but chances of his having escaped could not be ruled out. He said that two soldiers of 9 Para (Special Force) sustained minor injuries in the gunfight and both were stable.
